Sikh Missionary College has established Colleges for training in Gurmat for the general public and those who wish to adopt the profession of Pracharaks and Kirtanias. The aim is to strengthen the Prachar (Sikhism propagation) system through Gurdwaras. Gurdwaras are the fountainheads of Propagation of Sikhism. Having preachers (pracharaks) and Kirtanias, who understand the Gurbani principles and are able to convey the message to people on the modern language and idiom will help in conveying the message of Sikhism to people
Regular Sikh Missionary Colleges were planned with this objective in view. So far 5 such colleges have been established. The first such college was established in 1995 at Anandpur Sahib. With the success of this college more colleges were established and now following colleges are functioning:
- Anandpur Sahib, established in 1995.
- Bhaur Saidan, Near Pehowa, Distt Kurukshetra, Haryana, established in 1995
- Barielly, Uttar Pradesh, established in 1995.
- Jalandhar, exclusively for women Pracharaks, established in 1995.
- Chanalon, Near Kurali, District Mohali, Punjab, established as Keertan Vidyala for intensive training in Gurmat Kirtan, established in 2006.
All these colleges are providing free lodging and boarding to all the students and no fee is charged from the students. The students stay at the college for three years out which two and a half years are spent in academic studies cum practical training and the last 6 months are spent in full-time practical training.
The syllabus is divided into 10 quarters with quarterly examinations being held by The Directorate of Full Time Colleges of Sikh Missionary College based at Head Office Ludhiana. Full details of the syllabus have been made available separately. The curriculum places equal stress on academic/ theoretical knowledge and practical life. Students live a life of discipline of early rising, Amrit vela, Nitnem, the day spent in studies and practical training, sports, social welfare.
